Welcome to ART-6. Throughout the year we will explore six significant ancient art periods. Art exploration aligns and enriches Field's Humanities curriculum by allowing students to immerse themselves in the ideals and artmaking of each period.CAVE ART:Students will simulate the painting materials and techniques used to create the beautiful cave paintings at Lascaux, 15,000 BCE.
EGYPTIAN ART:Students will simulate the making of a burial mask following ceremony, intention, and personalizing with attributes. 3000 BCE.
GREEK ART:Students will study how form follows function and choose a pottery form to create using manual pottery wheels and coil technique. 400 BCE.GRECO-ROMAN ART :Students will learn about life at Pompeii through excavations of the Mt. Vesuvius volcanic eruption in 79 CE.We'll discover many magnificent mosaics that were unearthed and we will create one of our own.
MEDIEVAL ART:Students will examine manuscript illuminations and create their own historiated initial, marginalia, and calligraphic page. 800 CE.GOTHIC ART:Students will learn about the reason for cathedral building and technology that allowed it before designing a rose window. 1200 CE.
All terms will continue study of the Elements and Principles of Design and produce a Powerpoint presentation comprised of collected photographs and explanations.
