8th grade art is a 3D studio experience. This year, students will work with big idea: CHANGE to create a body of meaningful work in a variety of 3D media. Techniques will be taught and mastered and then students will organize their time and process independently. Students will receive guidance on finding inspiration in the world around them and funneling it into personal creation. Additionally, students will learn about and engage in Contemporary ART to look at artwork critically.Projects will include found sculpture, paper sculpture, a full unit on clay including throwing on the wheel, and plaster sculpture. Eighth graders will visit the Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park in the spring enroute to the Holocaust Museum in Skokie and study the minimal forms of Henry Moore before embarking on a special project where feelings about this dark time will be expressed in clay.

Sculpture Park - Interpretation activity
Choose an image identified by number, spend some time enjoying and thinking about it, finally, interpret it. An interpretation is an educated guess at what the artist is trying to express. What is the action, gesture, motion, meaning? You must back up your opinion by telling why you think that. You will have an opportunity to compare your guess with the artist's actual intention AND you'll get to visit the sculpture in May at the park.
Write a one minute report which you will present to the class
Black class due Friday Jan 8/Gold class due Monday Jan 11.
